The Living Building Challenge (LBC) is a building certification program, advocacy tool and philosophy that defines the most advanced measure of sustainability in the built environment. The LBC contains seven performance categories called Petals: Place, Water, Energy, Health & Happiness, Materials, Equity and Beauty. Petals are subdivided into a total of twenty Imperatives that focus on details within each performance area. There are three pathways to certification: Living Building Certification, Petal Certification, and Net Zero Energy Certification. Projects of any scale or type can be eligible to register for the Living Building Challenge.
